How many stages are there for the exam?

The BPSC selection procedure has three stages of the selection process. These include:

  • A preliminary exam: The BPSC Combined Competitive Prelims exam is a multiple-choice examination. The exam will last two hours. There are 150 questions in all, with a total of 150 marks. Preliminary examination questions are based on general knowledge and current events. The test is conducted in an offline mode. Only those who pass the preliminary exam are considered for the main exam.

  • A main written exam: BPSC main exam includes subjective or essay-type questions. The main exam includes four papers—General Hindi, General Studies Paper 1, General Studies Paper 2, and an Optional Paper. Candidates taking the BPSC Mains Examination can write their responses in one of the following languages, based on their application preference: English, Hindi, and Urdu.   • An interview: The interview portion of the BPSC exam is worth 120 points. The combined Mains (900 points) and interview (120 marks) scores are used to determine the final merit list.
